Dyslexia Beach

Dyslexia Beach Illustration

I tried to capture the struggle a child feels when they suffer from dyslexia, when it seems like everyone else can assemble the letters with ease. I placed our main character sitting on the beach, surrounded and overwhelmed by washed up letters. He doesn't know where to start while all the other kids have assembled rafts and are way on ahead.

I first had the sand a normal colour, but I disabled the layer and having it totally white made him seem even more lost, empty and alone. He's also holding the letter Y as in 'why' do things not seem as easy for him, and I put him in a red shirt while all the rest are in blue to further separate him.
